Born in Utah, and raised as a Mormon.
Attended almost a complete year of business college, then decided to
marry at age of 18. Being a good Mormon, I had 4 children within my
first 5 years of marriage, and was a full-time mother, wife and homemaker.
The men hold the Priesthood in the Mormon religion, and the women support
and follow their men and stay at home to care for the children. I tried
to continue to be a very good Mormon.
At the age of 24, a personal bankruptcy
lead to my first real wake up call in life, in that it was
time for me to change. I started working as a cashier at a minimum wage
job where I discovered that I really enjoyed working in the outside
world and began to grow as an individual. By the age of 26, I
was working as a secretary for a polygraph business and received the
training and a license to become a polygraph examiner, AKA Polygraphist.
At the age of 32, I had moved to Tucson
with my four children and a soon to be ex-husband to open a branch office
for the polygraph firm I was employed with. One
year later I purchased the business as my own, and founded Tucson Polygraph.
The world of polygraph was dominated by males. I became the first female
Polygraphist in the US to open her own polygraph suite. At the age of
34, I was the President of the Arizona Polygraph Association. Being
in the polygraph profession for over 10 years, I developed a better
ability to listen to what people are saying, and to realize the importance
of truth in every level of life.
In 1982 I married Burt Miller, who was
just starting his own business, Tucson May & Flag Center. A year
later, I sold Tucson Polygraph and began working with Burt at the map
and flag retail store. The business was a lot of fun. We were blessed
financially, emotionally and spiritually. It was during this period
of time that we discovered the Unity church in Tucson and found that
their beliefs agreed with our core
beliefs in what God is and in what the purpose of our lives were about.
In 1992, we decided it was time to sell the business and do some traveling,
which was so rewarding
after being workaholics for so many years. It was a wonderful
time. After 6 years of traveling, I decided that I wanted to do more
in life, and attended massage therapy
classes. I became a massage therapist for 4 years. Opportunity knocked
and I learned a new profession, the delight of working with stones.
In 2000, Burt assisted me in opening
Rock Your World, a gem and mineral store in Tucson. We invested a lot
of our retirement fund in discovering how not to do that particular
type of business. In 2004, we moved the business to our home where I
learned that selling the stones on the internet was much more fun and
rewarding. In 2006, Burt died suddenly from an aneurism. In 2009, I
moved to Sun City Grand to begin the next phase of my life and discovered
Unity of Surprise where I was so welcomed, and found an instant group
of friends and family.
Last year Chuck Hahn and I were married.
We are discovering the opportunities life has to offer in beginning
new relationships at this time in our lives. Chuck has also
remarked how comfortable and friendly Reverend Billie is, plus weve
made some special friends at Unity of Surprise.
Unity of Surprise is like our second
family. I look forward to serving on the board, and feel that this is
a golden opportunity for me.
